Gitano Beach Tulum: 120 Metres of Sand and a Mezcal Bar
Gitano Beach opened in February 2021 but has changed locations and and now sits beside the Casa Gitano hotel, near the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. The venue belongs to Grupo Gitano, which also operates properties in Miaim, New York and Dubai. Days revolve around beach seating, modern Mexican food and mezcal cocktails. The mood shifts toward DJs and dancing from Thursday through Sunday.
Sunbeds, Cabanas and the Palms
Cushioned sunbeds, cabanas and bamboo benches spread across the sand. Black-and-white striped tipis provide shade, while handcrafted textiles and natural materials shape the lounge areas. The palapa covers an open-fire kitchen equipped with a wood-burning oven, grill and comal. With its social layout and scheduled DJs, this is a better fit for couples and groups than visitors looking for a silent beach day.
The crowd includes international visitors, couples and groups celebrating together. Service begins with a relaxed daytime format built around food, drinks and beach seating. The energy rises around sunset rather than following a pool-party setup. Lounge chairs, single sunbeds, double beach beds and beach suites offer different levels of space. Towels are available for a separate rental fee.
Deep House, Disco and Full Moon Parties
DJs play Thursday through Sunday from 1 PM. Sets move through deep house, tropical house, nu-disco, indie dance and melodic house. The programme connects daytime lounging with Tulum nightlife without turning the entire day into a dance event. Recurring series include Full Moon Rising, Gypsy Disco, Sunset Fiesta and Las Gitanas. The Sunday Beach BBQ Fiesta adds food and daytime music to the weekly schedule.
Past lineups have included Emanuel Satie, Savage & She, Tom & Collins, and others. GITANO Records also publishes playlists, live recordings and DJ sets built around organic house, deep house, downtempo and disco house. Full Moon Rising follows the monthly lunar calendar, while other sessions run on selected weekdays and weekends. Special events may carry a cover charge in addition to the usual consumption policy. The venue remains open until 11 PM.
Modern Mexican Food from the Grill and Comal
Chef Alexandros Gkoutsi’s menu combines Mexican cooking with Mediterranean influences. The open-fire setup supports grilled seafood, roasted meats, tacos and vegetable plates. Cochinita pibil tacos are 320 MXN, while the Baja California hamachi tostada is 380 MXN and aguachile is 425 MXN. Small plates include hummus at 220 MXN, shishito peppers at 280 MXN and black truffle tlayuda at 550 MXN. The taco tasting costs 1,100 MXN.
The drinks programme centers on mezcal cocktails. Kisses in the Car combines mezcal, rum, passion fruit and tangerine habanero, while Gipsy Disco 75 mixes vodka, rosé prosecco, elderflower and lime. Some cocktails use ingredients such as burnt pineapple and salvaged lime husks. Food labels identify gluten-free, nut-free, vegetarian and dairy-free dishes. Guests with allergies or dietary restrictions should tell their waiter before ordering.
